How to choose from APA102 and HD107S Pixel led? APA102 and HD107S are two of the most popular pixel LED options on the market today. Both are similar in terms of their capabilities and features, but there are some key differences that make them better suited for different applications.

APA102 (also known as the DotStar) is a well-established brand that has been around for several years. It is a high-speed, addressable LED chip that uses a two-wire SPI protocol to communicate with the micro-controller. The APA102 has a high refresh rate, making it ideal for applications that require fast data transmission, such as video displays, and dynamic lighting effects.

The HD107S, on the other hand, is a relatively new product that was introduced to the market in recent years. Like the APA102, it is an addressable LED chip that uses a two-wire SPI protocol to communicate with the micro-controller. However, the HD107S has a higher refresh rate than the APA102, making it an excellent choice for high-speed applications that require precise timing, such as stage lighting and video displays.

Another significant difference between the two is the PWM frequency. The APA102 has a PWM frequency of around 20 kHz, while the HD107S has a much higher PWM frequency of 27 kHz. This higher PWM frequency helps to reduce the flicker in the LED, making it a better option for video displays and other applications that require smooth, flicker-free lighting. What's more, APA has a 20Mhz transmission speed, and HD107S is 40Mhz.

In terms of color quality, both the APA102 and the HD107S offer excellent color accuracy and brightness. However, the HD107S is known to have slightly better color consistency and higher brightness across different batches, making it a better choice for applications where color matching and brightness is essential.

Finally, when it comes to price, the APA102 is generally a little cheaper than the HD107S. But more and more people prefer to pay a little more for a better performance.

In summary, while both the APA102 and HD107S offer similar features and capabilities, there are some key differences that make them better suited for different applications. The APA102 is an established, reliable product that offers a more affordable price point. The HD107S, on the other hand, has a transmission speed, a higher PWM frequency, a better color consistency and higher brightness, making it ideal for high-speed applications that require precise timing and color matching.
